Revenue / Category Matrix

The Revenue / Category Matrix report allows you to view the revenue in a given date breakdown (year, quarter, month, day) for a given grouping (General Ledger, Sale Category, Product Description).

Matrix reports allow you to drill up and drill down by either or both the Rows and the Columns option using the Drill tools in the upper left of the visual.

The default view when you first open the report is to show the revenue for each General Ledger (GL) description for the given year within the DATE RANGE filter.  For this example, selected are the dates 1/1/2019 – 12/31/2019 (the full year).

Note: If you only select part of the year, the Date Range filter will dictate what data is returned.

So, this example shows all of 2019 (see DATE RANGE filter) and shows that in 2019, $20.50 was generated in the GL of BEER-RESTAURANT and there were a Qty of 6 units sold.

Using the drill-down (Rows), you can see this by quarter:

And once more will get you to MM/YYYY:

And once more to get to Date:

Now let’s use the Drill-Up arrow to scroll back to the top of the report (Up arrow will be grayed out) and select Columns:

In this example, it looks like this:

As you Drill-Down the Columns, the report will cycle from GL-Description (above) to Sale Category description:

And then to Product/Item description:

You can mix Rows and Columns.  So, if you want to stay at the product level for the columns but see it by quarter for date, you can leave the Columns as is, switch to Rows and drill down one level:

FILTERS

There are various filters you can use to narrow down the data.  Filters are the gold background controls as well as the Filters right hand sidebar.
